Stylish Blogger Award

Thank you Magnolia/C from Come What May for this lovely Stylish Blogger award. I really hope that this cycle is your lucky one hon and am thankful to have met you (even though it was bc of shitty IF) and am so thankful that you are such a great friend.

Believe it or not, I'm actually quite shy IRL, though people who know me well would say not once you get to know me. But on here I'm waving around pictures of the inside of uterus, so it's kind of an icebreaker. ;)

Now for 7 random things you may or may not already know about me:

1) I'm a nerd (but w/social skills). I read the Economist and watch foreign affairs programs for fun. I'm unusually good at taking tests, always have been. I didn't have to work very hard to do well in school. I liked doing Calculus. Please don't hate me because I'm smart. ;)

2) I <3 being near the water, especially the ocean. Maybe it's because I grew up nowhere near it (in the landlocked middle of WI), but it makes me really happy and calm and serene. Someday, I will live on the water again.

3) I have three sisters (and a step-sister), and was raised by my mom mostly, and I went to a women's college (which I didn't particularly like), but ironically I much prefer to hang out with men than women generally. I'm pretty low key, low maintenance, and low drama and they are usually like that too.

4) My life changed forever when I came down with mono in college, at the end of the summer before my senior year. I was working three jobs, commuting between the Cape and Boston, and taking summer classes to graduate on time (since I had transferred from said women's college), enjoying my new boyfriend, and generally ready to take over the world. Then I got sick, and I've never really felt the same since. That was 12 years ago. I still tire easily, and have unfortunately had to adjust my life and career goals accordingly (no grad school, Wall Street or White House job for me :( ).

5) I'm really tall, about 5'11", and I like it, even though it's not always easy being tall in a short person's world. I've always been tall, like I'm in the back row of every school picture ever taken. I still have stretch marks on my legs and hips from my big growth spurt in grade school. I'm also kind of a klutz, and DH is about the same height, so it's mostly flats for me...

6) I don't run, though I was good at it when they made us do it in school. I think I'm missing the gene that makes people want to run marathons. I just don't get it. Everyone assumes I do because I'm lanky and athletic (or bc of how low my heart rate is), but I don't. When asked if I do, I say "only if someone is chasing me." :)

7) I really like to vacuum, and I hate to dust. I could take or leave other cleaning, though I like things to be clean, but I've always loved to vacuum. It's really inexplicable...

Blogs with substance

So about eight months and very nearly 200 posts in, I'm still working on this blogging thing. I started it as a sort of online diary (I'm no writer), without much of a plan, that I thought might help other ladies struggling with infertility. But some days I wish, I'll admit, that it was private. That's just how I roll. There were several posts written that never saw the light of day. Other days, I wish that I could just post fun stuff that engages my fabulous readers that really had nothing to do with my life, but then I guess it wouldn't be considered a "blog with substance."

Now for the requisites:
1-Thank the giver!
Thanks Angela at every.day.matters. for giving me this award. I'd like to thank the Academy... (sorry, wrong speech.)

2-Sum up your blogging philosophy, motivation & experience using 5 words...
Hmmm? Infertility.Life.Design.Sharing. (yes, that's only four)

3-Pass it on to 10 other blogs that you know have real substance!
The Patient's Doctor (not bc the good dr. needs an award, but bc I think you'll like his blog)
LTF525 (Lindsay)
It's Always Something (Niki)
TTC isn't as easy as 1-2-3 (Amber)
Infertile in Italy (Rosie)
Waiting for our Miracle (Lindsey)
Close my eyes and leap (Sulfa)
Inconceivable (Worms)
PCOS: Pretty Crappy Ovary Syndrome (Steph-Anasara)

I would be remiss if I didn't thank Rachael of There's No Crying in Baseball, who so kindly gave me the Beautiful blog award back when I first started blogging in February.

I felt a little like Obama must have when he got the Nobel (stay with me), as I knew I had the potential, but I felt like I hadn't really been around long enough to warrant the recognition, as I had just arrived. So a belated thanks hon. :)
