End of an era

I'm one month post-op for my total hysterectomy (and just turned 48 last week) and feel amazing. I had been trying to get my OB/gyne, who I'd been seeing since I first got pregnant 13 years ago to remove my tubes, since my eldest sister had fallopian tube cancer at 40 (posted on this day, back in 2010), and I felt like a sitting duck, but she didn't think I needed to. So I'd been toying with changing doctors for years and finally did. My wonderful surgeon asked me about my ovaries and uterus when I first went in to see her, and since she said my ovaries' job had been completed several years ago (at 45) and any benefit to keeping them was over and I didn't think I need my uterus either, I said just take it all. So glad I did! Turns out I had some small fibroids I didn't know about and everything else was fine, if very tired and ready to retire. I'd been on the pill for years, which helps ease the effects of perimenopause, and am still/now on HRT (everyone's favorite estrogen patches) now that I'm surgically menopaused. I've passed the torch to my now almost 13yo daughter. Recovery has been easy, just have to wait another ten days to play pickleball again.
